Hollywood star Megan Fox has come and gone from Bethlehem before most residents even knew she was here.

Fox, one of the stars of Transformers 2, has already checked out of the Hotel Bethlehem, said Dennis Costello, the hotel’s general manager.

Fox presumably was in town to film a scene at Bethlehem Steel for the DreamWorks movie about giant shapeshifting robots from another planet. It’s not clear when Fox was on the set, but filming for the scene began Monday night and ended this morning.

As of this afternoon, crew members could be seen packing up their equipment on the former Bethlehem Steel site.

At least four of the six helicopters on the set, including two Apache helicopters from the North Carolina National Guard and two civilian-style helicopters, were already gone by noon.

In addition to Fox, the Hotel Bethlehem housed Transformers 2 director Michael Bay and stars Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson, Costello said. Of a crew that reportedly included at least 200 people, more than 50 of them stayed at the Hotel Bethlehem, Costello said.

Local officials, including Mayor John Callahan, had been told that Fox would not be in the Bethlehem Steel scene, which will open the movie and takes place in a fictional Chinese village. However, Bay also made a public pledge on his Web site last month to “give so much disinformation on this film to confuse everyone.”

It’s not clear how Fox’s character, an American college student, will be involved in a scene set in China. Reportedly, the scene will involve Chinese police and military, including a special forces unit led by the Duhamel and Gibson characters, facing off against at least one of the computer-generated Transformers robots.

In addition to her starring role in Bay’s 2007 blockbuster Transformers, Fox, 22, also appeared in the television sitcom Hope and Faith. Last month, readers of FHM magazine gave her the number one spot in the publication’s list of the “100 Sexiest Women in the World.”
